Types of
Metal Finishing

Electropolishing

Electropolishing is a process that involves removing iron from the surface of a stainless steel part. The part is placed in a tank of phosphoric and sulfuric acid. A current is run through the part and this causes metal ions to be removed from the part. Electropolishing results in several benefits. First, it improves corrosion resistance. The surface of the part has a better chromium ratio, thus improving corrosion resistance. Second, this finish makes it more difficult for bacteria to form on the surface of the part. Third, the micro peaks and valleys on the surface of the part are smoothed out, which results in improved cleanability. Pronto has an electropolish line and we electropolish hundreds of parts every day.

LDPE

Low-density polyethylene, or LDPE, is a thermoplastic coating that we apply to wire products and metal parts. Thermoplastics can be found in many different products, including refrigerator shelves, utility racks, and many industrial applications. It is widely used because of its corrosion resistance, durability, and flexibility. LDPE is available in many different colors. Because Pronto applies LDPE in-house, we are able to control quality, lead time, and cost.

Other Metal Finishing

We offer a wide range of other metal finishes. Some of them are shown below.

  • PTFE (commonly called Teflon) – Anti-adhesive properties. This is a great option for cookware and is found on many kitchen products.
  • Talisman – This coating is great in high-temperature environments. You will find it on medical equipment and dishwasher racks.
  • Plastisol – A liquid PVC material that provides a nice grip.
  • Powder Coating – A thermoset coating that is found in many products due to its low cost and durability.

Each of these finishes has different properties and advantages. If you are not sure which one is right for you, contact us today to speak with an expert.

We rely on our many years of experience as a wire and steel fabricator and our team of engineers to advise you on which finish or coating is right for your application. Many factors, including temperature, durability, and exposure to different environments, are taken into consideration when deciding on the right coating.
